BPJS Health or formerly known as PT Asuransi Kesehatan (Askes) is a State-Owned Enterprise specially assigned by the government to organize health care insurance for Civil Servants, Pensioners of PNS and TNI / POLRI, Veterans, Pioneers of Independence and their families and other Business Entities. Based on the Decree of the Minister of Health RI PT Askes (Persero) was appointed as the organizer of Health Insurance Program for the Poor (PJKMM). PT Askes (Persero) gets assignment to manage membership and basic health service and referral. BPJS Kesehatan (Badan Pengelenggara Jaminan Sosial Kesehatan) is a State-Owned Enterprise specially assigned by the government to organize health care insurance. BPJS Health together BPJS Employment formerly named Jamsostek is a government program in the National Health Insurance unity (JKN) which was inaugurated on December 31, 2013.

BPJS Health started operation since January 1, 2014, while BPJS Employment began operating since July 1, 2014. BPJS Health previously named Askes (Health Insurance), which is managed by PT Askes Indonesia (Persero), but in accordance with Law no. 24 Year 2011 on BPJS, PT Askes Indonesia changed into BPJS Health since January 1, 2014, this change of name in advance compared to state-owned insurance companies have another government that is PT Jamsostek which has now changed its name to BPJS Employment in June 2015 this year.
